Car rules and parking at Oklahoma State University

Sales are open now. Residence-hall permits opened August 3, 2026 at 10 a.m., and commuter permits opened August 4 at 10 a.m. Buy online through OSU's Parking Portal with an O-Key account, select the permit that matches your housing status, and register the vehicle; OSU allows one paid permit per student.

A permit does not promise the closest lot. OSU reports more total campus parking spaces than permits sold and says many overflow lots still have empty spaces, but lots next to residence halls and classrooms can fill. RH, OZ, GZ, SZ, and other unrestricted paid permits can use general overflow; Park and Ride and every other lot-restricted or single-lot permit must stay in the lot assigned to that permit.

A residence-hall student may keep one registered, operable car overnight in the RH/OZ surface area assigned to the student's housing or in an eligible overflow lot. Lot 74 is the important exception: move the car by 4 p.m. the day before a designated event. Any posted event closure or relocation overrides the usual resident assignment.

A permitted car may remain in legal student surface parking during fall break, spring break, summer break, wellness days, and winter intersession. During student breaks, RH, OZ, GZ, and SZ permit holders may use those student surface lots as overflow. Park and Ride remains limited to lot 120, and every other lot-restricted or single-lot permit remains limited to its assigned lot; garages, meters, reserved spaces, staff lots, and family-housing lots keep their normal rules. During full university holidays, the student surface lots are free, but garages and reserved areas remain enforced.
